Creating a Garden
This kids activity is inspired by the book The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas and was the idea of my 5 year old. She wanted to create a garden haven for the colour monsters she had made, from our Colour Monster activity box, to relax in. She took charge and set it up and it turned into a great small world activity which kept her busy.
Set Up
So I did no set up for this activity. I was merely my daughters assistant, helping get plant pots and then going on a walk together to find some flowers and leaves to add to pots and jars. We talked about what things we liked to have in our garden and added those to the monsters’ gardens.
Once we had collected enough plants, leaves and flowers. We jointly set up the mini garden for the colour monsters. We also added log slices as stepping stones across the grass. Once it was finished it was time to add the colour monsters. M then spent time playing with the monsters in the garden, creating her own narrative within the small world. She also wanted to look after the garden and began to water all the different parts too. This was such a simple small world activity to set up and kept my daughter happy and playing for quite some time.
