Blossom
Following on from our activities using our April Spring Tree activity box, together my son and I created a Spring small world inside his tuff tray. I am a huge fan of my son building up his own small world because the development of his language and story telling skills are so valuable and rich during this kind of activity.
Set Up
To set this activity up I drew grass, the bottom outline of a tree, the clouds and sun using chalk pens into the tuff tray. I added apple tree branches to create the tree. I placed the woodland creatures, the owl, ladybirds, bees, pink and white tissue paper and poms poms around the edge of the tuff tray.
The first question my son asked when he saw the tuff tray was “What is this?” I explained that we were going to create a tree in the woods using the toys and craft materials and he was off.
The animals were added first and as my son knows the book ‘Tree’ by Britta Teckentrup so well, the owl was placed in the centre of the tree just liked the owl in the story.
Together we had wonderful conversations about what each of the animals were doing, why the blossom grew on the trees and why the bees needed to visit the tree. This was such a beautiful spring small world activity to do together.
