Shape Hunt
This is a fun, maths activity that will get your little ones active whilst they learn! And proof that you don’t need a work sheet to learn! This activity uses some of our 2D shapes from our “Snowy Day” activity box.
Set Up:
I used some of the leftover card 2D shapes from our January Snowy Day Activity Box, a piece of paper cut in half and some left over cardboard from a box. I also used some mini clips to hold the sheets on. I used glue to glue the shapes onto the paper but if you wanted to reuses the shapes again you could use blue tack.
So I challenged my two to find all the shapes on the sheet from items around the house. For each shape they had to draw or write where they had found a corresponding shape. They were instantly keen to get going and I only intervened to quickly ask them how they knew each item matched the shape ie. it has 4 sides ect.
It is safe to say they had lots of fun and burnt some energy. They were both desperately rushing around trying to find the shapes. M managed to find them all although the pentagon required some discussion as to exactly what made a pentagon and what she should therefore be looking for. This would also be great to take outdoors and go on a shape walk to add some interest to a daily walk. Can they find any shapes in nature of in the urban landscape.
