Stickman Scarecrow
This fun outdoor activity for kids comes from our August Subscription box. For this outdoor activity we went on a stick hunting mission! My two rarely go on a walk without picking up a stick so this time I gave them a few criteria for their sticks and they were excited to turn their stick finds into their very own stick people when we got back home.
Set Up
So first we went for a walk and collected lots of different sticks. Then all we needed to add was the coloured string from our August Gardening Activity box.
There are lots of different ways that you can wrap the string to create your stick man. But the first thing is to attach the “arm” stick to the “body/leg” stick. To do this cross the arm stick over the middle of the body stick and start wrapping the string diagonally over the arms. I started both of my girls off with this bit as once it is wrapped a couple of times the arms tend not to come loose anymore making it easier for them to carry on.
I gave them both free reign as to which of the strings they wanted to use. F only wanted the green and M wanted to use both. So M created a stripey body on hers. And I also let them decide which bits of the body they wanted to wrap in the sting so F ended up with her stick looking like it was wearing a onesie! They both were very pleased with their creations and decided that the tissue paper we were going to add would make a fantastic hat instead of hair. We are all now looking forward to taking our stick men on some adventures!
