Flowers in a Vase
Inspired by the non-fiction book “Sunflower Shoots and Muddy Boots” this simple to set up activity for children and toddlers will have them practising those all important fine motor skills.
Set Up
For this fine motor activity I cut out a small vase shape from a cardboard box and pierced some holes into the cardboard. I got out the paper flowers from our August activity box and added some crayons so we could decorate the vase. I threaded two of the flowers through so my son knew what he had to do and we were ready to start playing.
My son quickly started threading the flowers through the holes I had made in the vase. He moved the flowers around depending on how he felt; sometimes he sorted the colours so they were all together and sometimes he created a pattern with the colours.
He much preferred threading the flowers then decorating the vase!
I left this activity out all day so that my son could dip in and out of it.
This was one of the many different configurations my son created with his vase. I have kept the vase somewhere safe because it’s a great activity to quickly get out when I need to keep him busy for 10 minutes.
