Stick in a Hole
This is such a simple fine motor skills activity that is very easy to do at home with toddlers and children and was such a big hit with my two. This motor skills idea for kids uses just recycling and sticks from the garden, so nothing to buy and no waste.
Set Up
So nothing to buy, just gather up some sticks and I used a left over kitchen roll and an egg box. For both the kitchen roll and egg box, I used a screwdriver to create the holes. Obviously please be careful when doing this!
I was surprised how into this activity they both were. I had seen something similar before but using plastic straws. I have been trying to avoid using unnecessary plastic but was worried that the sticks would be less appealing then colourful straws. How wrong was I! They were both so focused on this motor skills activity and I had to quickly go on the hunt for more sticks!
They both quietly worked away and were both surprisingly proud of their creations that we had to keep them! I had planned for this motor skill activity to be a bit of an easy and quick boredom buster whilst I got on with chores. But it ended up occupying them for so long. I think they particularly loved that the sticks were all slightly different and M started to decide which would be more suitable for her and which were for F! Definitely a motor skill idea for toddlers that we will be trying again at home.
