Building a Shelter

Playdough always makes a wonderful motor skills activity that works on strengthening those little fingers and is often a great way to learn about something else too. This activity inspired by ‘The Worrysaurus’ by Rachel Bright will have your children and toddlers building a shelter for the Worrysaurus in case it rains whilst he is on his picnic.

Set Up

For this playdough fine motor skill activity I used the dinosaur crayon, butterfly stamper and the playdough from our September Worries activity box. I added building blocks from our toy bag and the blue gravel from our At The Seaside activity box.

In the book ‘The Worrysaurus,’ the little Worrysaurus worries that it is going to rain and is he unprepared for this change in the weather. So I explained that we needed to build a shelter for the Worrysaurus so that he does not get wet.

Using the playdough as cement, we built a shelter for the Worrysaurus crayon together.

This was so much fun and even though the shelter collapsed on a number of occasions we simple rebuilt.
