Wave Paintings
This is a easy to try art activity which works well with both toddlers and older kids at home too. Inspired by the beautiful book Clem and Crab by Fiona Lumbers it is one of the activities in our Seaside Activity Box.
Set Up:
This is very easy to set up. Using the paint block, paint brush and card from our Seaside Activity Box all i added was a dish to put the paint block in a pot of water.
Painting is always a hit with my two and this one is no exception. It is nice and easy to set up and one that we will be repeating. We first looked at the illustrations in the book and discussed the lighter and darker parts of the sea.
With M I focused on trying to create lighter and darker shades of blue by using more or less water. She was very intrigued by the difference it made. We also used a small bit of tissue to dab and remove areas of paint to create the white breaks of the waves. For the sky we experimented using a very watery wash of the blue with the tissue used to make clouds. M was also keen to use the tissue to dab paint on for the sky.
They both created beautiful art works and both were keen to keep going. After we finished painting, we talked about the way we could potentially add more of the features of the beach to the picture; how could we create the golden sound or the rock pools? Will definitely use some of their picture to try some collage work next!
