Natural Parts Collage
Children love nothing more than picking up all sort of bits and bobs when out on walks. Sticks, pebbles, leaves, petals and flowers fill my pockets after our walks. So inspired by the fantastic book Clem and Crab by Fiona Lumbers this activity from our Seaside Activity Box puts these collected bits to good use.
Set Up:
For this easy art activity I used the blue tissue paper from our monthly activity box to be a backdrop and also the wooden matchsticks. I also put out the shells, crab and the starfish they made as inspiration.
So the first thing we did was head off on a walk together. Looking for bits to make our pictures. M already had decided that she wanted to make a crab and a dragonfly too! As we explored we looked at the different shapes of leaves to see if they would work for different parts of anatomy. Looking at how different leaves are was a great way to discuss the difference between different plants and learn to identify species.
Once we got back it was time to start assembling our pictures. It was lots of fun to play around with the different shaped natural parts. It was almost like a puzzle where by we rotated different parts to see which way they fitted best. This activity was a lovely way to explore natural and focus on the details of the natural bits we collected a little bit more.
