Spring Garden

Playdough makes a wonderful base for a sensory small world activity using loose parts. The learning, especially the development of a child’s speech and language is invaluable during this type of activity.

Set Up

For this activity I used the green, red and pink playdough, the wooden tree shape, the green leaves, the bees, the ladybird and the wood slice stampers from our April activity box. The felt balls, wooden cubes and wooden flower buttons are from our March activity box. I added chickpeas from our Nature Boredom buster.

I set up my son’s table next to the french doors so we could look directly out at our Spring garden for inspiration.

For this type of activity the setting up of the Spring small world was completely in the hands of my son.

My son didn’t have time to take off his pyjamas before diving straight into this playdough spring small world activity. He happily built his garden explaining what he was doing and every now and then looking out into our garden and commenting on what he could see there; “Mummy look a squirrel in the trees.”

There is something so satisfying about pushing loose parts into playdough.

We both loved this activity and we will be getting this out many more times in the coming weeks.
