A Trip to the Moon
I continue to fall in love with how versatile playdough is and how great it is for relieving stress and giving him wonderful opportunities to build in his motor skills, imagination and language whilst playing.
The topic of Space is a great topic as a focus for play because there are so many opportunities for multi-sensory play and learning. This playdough small world space activity is simple to set up and tidy away and can be left out all day for your child to dip in and out of.
Set Up
For this playdough small world space activity I used our homemade grey, orange scented playdough and peg doll from our March Activity box. I added the glow in the dark stars, the rockets and planets from an earlier space activity.
My son was immediately drawn to this playdough small world space activity. The first thing he did was grabbed the space rocket, counted backwards and shouted “blast off” before running around the room pretending to be flying through space and then landing back on the moon (the grey playdough).
The astronaut (peg doll) then went out onto the moon and created his own footprints. My son then showed the astronaut outer space, pointing out the stars and planets before getting back into his rocket and blasting off into outer space ie running around the kitchen.
This wonderful imaginative play carried on all afternoon.
