Fireworks Tuff Tray
Fireworks are such a sensory experience for all and I wanted to capture that with a fireworks activity idea for my two. This is a simple fireworks activity idea that you can try at home with toddlers and older children and it is a great opportunity for them to use their imaginations and be creative.
Set Up
For this fireworks sensory activity idea you can use what you have available but I used a survival blanket cut into strips, colourful tissue paper, old toilet rolls, glitter and sequins. I put them all on our tuff tray, which I recommend for indoor and outdoor play. It is big enough that they can climb in and also generally contains all the mess. As it has low sides it was also great when F was only crawling or not even mobile yet as meant she could still reach in and access everything. I didn’t put any of the glitter in the tray beforehand as I knew my two would absolutely love sprinkling that on!
Well they were very intrigued as soon as they saw the fireworks tuff tray and they were desperate to explore it. As soon as I said that they could sprinkle some glitter on to create the exploding fireworks they were even more excited. They were actually surprisingly restrained with the glitter. Each taking turns with the different colours so that they could each create a firework explosion of each colour. Whilst they were playing we talked about, colours, explosions, noises, and rockets as well as various other adjectives to describe it all.
We then used the toilet rolls to create some rockets using some card, which they enjoyed whizzing around the room. This fireworks sensory activity idea was a great experience for them and was a great opportunity to use adjectives to describe what they could see. We will now use all our fireworks materials in another activity as they have enjoyed this activity idea so much.
