Colourful Water Play
Sensory water play is always a hit in my house and this sensory water play idea for toddlers and older children was no exception. Not only is this activity great as a sensory activity, giving your children the opportunity to explore and play, but it is also great for their fine motor skills by strengthening their fingers!
Set Up:
For this activity I used food colouring mixed with water and put this into glass jars. I added the pippettes which are fantastic for strengthening fingers and improving fine motor skills. I also added a ladle, our metal bowl and this metal teapot.
Well this sensory water play activity idea turned out to be irresistible. I had set it up for after F’s nap ready to play once we had collected M from school. But F couldn’t help herself and had to try it straight away. She instantly loved the sound of the coloured water spraying onto the metal bowl and squealed with delight each time. Similarly when M got home from school I struggled to get her to take her school uniform off before she got stuck in.
They both played differently with this activity but both enjoyed it so much. We talked about colours and colour mixing and there was something very fascinating watching the colours mix in the bottom of the bowl each time they added another squirt. This sensory water play idea was such a hit that we have kept it out for over a week and every day they come and play a bit more. Defintily worth trying at home with your toddlers and older children too.
