Seaside
Here are our top tips for completing the fun, educational activities from our Seaside box. These seaside-themed activities are inspired by the brilliant book Look What I Found at the Seaside. These easy, educational activities are perfect to try at home with kids, especially in the Summer holidays. These educational activities will help your child gain a deeper understanding and respect for the natural world around them.
Floating and Sinking
After testing the sugar and salt with the egg my children explored what else we can from the kitchen to make the egg float.
We also tried different toys, for example dinosaurs, to see if they would float or sink in the different mixtures.
Painting Pebbles
Before we started painting the pebbles we spent a lot of time learning to use the watercolour pencils and experimenting with different techniques.
Smoother and lighter colour pebbles work best for this but your child can explore and test different pebbles.
You only need the smallest amount of water on the paintbrush. Encourage your child to wipe as much of the water off as possible.
Clay Bowl
Ideally try to ensure that the sides of the bowl are not too thin as they will otherwise be more likely to break.
Ocean Sensory World
Encourage your child to start by only adding small amounts of water.
Once we had finished exploring the Ocean Dust I washed the tray, the sea creature, the pebbles and the shells and returned them to the tray. I then added some tap water into the tray for my son to continue playing.
PLaydough Ocean world
This activity uses the turquoise playdough from our May Earth box. I just added the sea creature, pebbles and shells from this box and my son built this small world himself.
He really enjoyed stamping the shells and his sea creature into the playdough to see what shapes and patterns he could create.
I simply added our sea creature, shells and pebbles to a big Tupperware box and filled it with blue-coloured water and put it in the freezer overnight.
I then gave my son a pipette, medicine syringe, warm water and salt and asked him to rescue his shark!
Add blue water-based poster paint to a tray of water and add your sea creature, pebbles and shells.
Can your little one guess what they have found in the water?
