Colour Hunt

This maths activity for toddlers and children is a great way to look at the different colours in nature but to also to share a conversation about how different colours can reflect our mood. We are huge believers that the more we talk about emotions, the better equipped our toddlers and children will be when experiencing them.

Set Up

For this activity I simply used the back of one of our adult support cards to draw two different colours and the name of the feelings they represent with the crayons from our Colour Monster box. For my son it was appropriate to look for two colours but for older children you may choose to look for more. The clipboard is a piece of cardboard box which I covered in wrapping paper.

And then it was time to hunt for colours.

As my son spotted each colour we stopped to discuss how each colour made him and us feel.

For us it is really important to get the whole family talking about their emotions especially those emotions which are perceived as negative. I want my son to know that is OK to feel sad and that he can always talk to us about it.
