Splatting Snowballs
This toddler game was an activity I often did in the classroom to teach my pupils counting, addition and subtraction. As long as you don’t mind a bit of mess, this multi-sensory game is lots of fun and will have both you all laughing.
Set Up
For this multi-sensory game I used my tuff tray, some cheap shaving foam from my local supermarket, a fly swat from B&Q and a shower curtain to keep the floor as clean as possible. My toddler and I both wore older clothes that could be taken off quickly and put straight into the washing machine.
For this multi-sensory game, as well as having lots of fun, my toddler and I were learning how to count objects up to 6. Depending on your child you could make less or more snowballs. If your child is older you can use this activity to teach adding one more or subtracting one less.
I was in charge of squirting the shaving foam to create the snowballs and as I squirted I counted and encouraged my toddler to count with me.
I then modeled splatting the snowballs and then it was over to my toddler. We repeated this multi-sensory game a number of times and I wiped the tuff tray clean each time with a damp flannel.
When I was teaching I would often do this activity and sprinkle powder paint over the snowballs to give them an extra dimension.
It’s such a fun multi-sensory game to teach little ones the skill of counting, adding and taking away.
