Saving the Animals
A lovely activity to teach fine motor skills, resilience and the animals’ names and sounds.
This is a great activity to work on resilience. My mini human was very quick to get the animals off the cupboard but quickly became frustrated with the sellotape when he became stuck on the animals and then on his hands.
set up
For this activity you need some farm yard animals, sellotape and a piece of cardboard. I bought the animals from Sainsburys and the cardboard was an old Amazon box. This is a really quick activity to set up and tidy away afterwards.
Using sellotape stick the animals onto the cardboard. Use plenty of sellotape as the animals need to be stuck securely otherwise they will escape.
Once your small human has rescued all the animals, the activity is finished. To extend the activity we talked about the animal names and what sounds they make. Animals sounds are often among the first ‘words’ that a small human will make. So if your child has not started talking yet, focusing on the sounds each animal makes is a great way to boost that emerging skill.
For an older child you could use a mixture of different animals: farm, safari, marine etc and your child could then sort them into groups.
