Chinese New Year Mark Making
This Chinese New Year activity is perfect for toddlers, babies and children. Sensory mark making, such as this mark making Chinese New Year is a wonderful activity to encourage your little one to build on their fine motor skills . Like any muscle, these small muscles in the hand need to be built up to develop strength and dexterity. Working on activities which support the development of your mini humans’ fine motor skills will enable them to become more independent in eating their dinner, getting dressed and one day being able to use a pen to write.
Set Up
Very simply I poured dyed red rice into one half of this sushi take away platter and popcorn kernels into the other half. You could also use dyed yellow rice but I didn’t have any our sensory resource box. I added chopsticks as the ‘pens’.
If you are doing this activity with a baby, I would not use the chopsticks but encourage your baby to use their fingers to mark make.
I added two pairs of chopsticks so that I could join in with my two year old.
As this was such a visually appealing activity I didn’t need to give any words of encouragement for my two year old to start mark making.
Such a simple set up and a lovely way to practice mark making and celebrate Chinese New Year.
