Mess Free Colour Mixing

This is a great, very easy baby art activity idea that works especially well at home. It allows children of all ages to be creative and make marks without any mess at all. This baby art activity idea can either be laid on the floor in front of baby during tummy time or put on the tray of a high chair. I used to bring my baby’s high chair into the kitchen whilst I cooked so they could play and I could get on. And as there is no mess involved it doesn’t involve a clean up operation afterwards.

Set Up

All that is needed for this baby art activity idea is zip lock bags and paint. This is the paint I bought when M was a baby and it is still going strong 4 years later. I put a piece of white printer paper inside each bag so their artwork could be dried and kept. The other good thing about putting a piece of white paper in, is it helps the colours stand out. I also added a wooden hammer as thought they might enjoy splatting the paint with it.

They all explored the feeling of the squidgy paint in the bag first. Then M couldn’t wait to get started with the hammer. O, who was visiting us, kept flitting off in between but would then come back again to do a little more generally bring a car, a wooden figurine, a random toy with him. All of which he then used to move the paint around and create marks and patterns.

Toddler Mess Free Art Idea at Home

M talked about what was happening to the colours as they mixed. She also enjoyed creating lines and marks in the paint. At the end I gave her a unopened pen and she used it to “write” her name in the paint. She was very proud of her finished creation. Once the paper has been removed the bags can be rinsed out and used again for another activity. So all in all this was an easy, mess free baby art activity idea to do at home with children, toddlers as well.
