How to Make School Uniform More Comfortable

Wash It!

and then wash it some more.

Most school uniform is built to last and this can make it feel stiff and scratchy. Wash the school uniform with their clothes until it has lost that feeling.

The smell is important.

Use your regular washing powder to ensure that the uniform smell likes their favourite clothes.

If it smells familiar, it may be easier to get your child to wear it.

Remove all labels

Clothes labels can be uncomfortable, so remove them if needed. The school shirts I have recently bought from Next for my son do not have the label in the collar.

There are wonderful name stamps out there that you can stamp directly onto the material.

MAke life easier!

Buy shoes that have Velcro fasteners!

Also, Marks & Spencers and Next sell pull-on trousers, shorts and skirts, so children don’t need to worry about buttons when going to the toilet.

add a favourite colour

If your child has a favourite colour they like wearing, sew in coloured ribbons under collars and inside hems. Also, allow them to wear their favourite colour on their pants, socks or vests.

Practice wearing school shoes and the uniform for short moments, building up slowly.

Reasonable Adjustments

If getting your little one to wear their school uniform is proving tricky, speak to the school as soon as possible. They may have some tricks and may be able to offer some flexibility.
