Leaf Wreath Christmas Cards

For this Christmas card craft I wanted something which we could use items found in the garden. Although it is winter there is still abundance of green leaves around and this in itself was a learning point for my two; that some plants and trees are evergreen and what this meant. This Christmas card craft is suitable for older toddlers but think it works best with preschoolers and older kids.

Set Up

For this Christmas card craft I used some blank white cards which I lightly drew a circle on by drawing round a cup. I also had some PVA glue ready. We collected the leaves together although do be careful as holly and other evergreen can be prickly or have spikes. The leaves that we found worked best were from a box hedge and a rosemary plant!

The girls enjoyed collected the greenery outside although we had to think about what leaf sizes might be best for the cards. We collected quite a lot and will try and make other decorations using the rest. My youngest toddler found the activity quite tricky and quickly lost interest in sticking the leave on the cards. My eldest was quite meticulous about putting the leaves on carefully and we enjoyed making them together.

The leaf wreath Christmas cards look great. I added the writing in the middle and older kids could do this themselves which would add another personal touch. The rosemary one smells great too and this DIY Christmas card craft would work well with cuttings from a Christmas tree to add that Christmas smell.
